this Week at the faRM

Spring is here! The redbuds and dogwoods are in bloom, the daffodils are on a roll, the pond is full and there are strawberries in the greenhouse (granted they’re still green, but they’re there!)

It’s been a cold winter and we spent some of it at the other house, but now we’re focused on getting the blueberries and the blackberries in the best shape for a big summer. Pruning and mulching blueberries and cleaning out, training the canes, and mulching the blackberries takes most of our time, but we’re also planning the garden and the wildflower meadow (which, right now, has asked us to call it “Daffodil Hill”).

The quince and forsythia are almost done, the peonies are starting to pop up, and there are violets everywhere. All of the fruit trees have more blossoms than last year thanks to a stern pruning. (Some still need some “sucker” clipping.) If we can figure how to keep the deer and the bears from helping themselves, we’ll have some fruit to pick! The bees are loving all the flower choices they have and promising some special spring honey.

See you soon at the farm!
