this Week at the faRM

Monday’s are our day at the Fairy Stone Farmer’s Market and this week we took our first batch of blueberries to sell. Picked fresh that morning, they sold out early—leaving customers with just a taste by way of our “Very Best” blueberry muffins.

Queen Anne’s Lace is making an appearance all over the farm and is helping us make the wildflower bouquets we’re selling at the Farmer’s Market. Those bouquets also include field daisies, butterfly weed, black-eyed Susans, hibiscus, purple phlox, and our own calla lilies.

Frequent afternoon thunderstorms have kept us hopping from one task to another, but we hope to finish the weeding and mulching for the sweet potatoes, peas, and corn, as well as the asparagus bed. We have the last few stakes we need to finish the deer fence and we’re close to automating the drip for everything in the garden!

The tomatoes are growing bigger and bigger and they need more support. We did harvest a big cabbage and the first crookneck yellow squash of the season! (Yum!)

“Picking blueberries” has made its way onto the daily chore list and “picking blackberries” is not far behind. Of course we’re already doing some quality control tasting. There’s definitely blackberry cobbler in the future!

Happy Fourth of July!
